Do you have Computer Vision Syndrome? Let’s find out.

If you’ve ever had sore eyes, neck pain or headaches after looking at device screens, then you’ve probably experienced Computer Vision Syndrome.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is an umbrella term used to describe eye and vision problems caused by prolonged use of digital devices - which almost 60 million people suffer from globally.

While Computer Vision Syndrome might sound ominous, you’ll be glad to hear that most of the time the symptoms are temporary. Below are some of the most common complaints of CVS:

  • Dry eyes
  • Headaches
  • Eye irritation
  • Blurred vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Temporary inability to focus on a distant object (pseudomyopia or accommodative spasm)
  • Double vision
  • Squinting
  • Neck and shoulder pain

What causes Computer Vision Syndrome?

Your eyes react to changing images on the screen so your brain can process what you’re seeing. All these jobs require a lot of effort from your eye muscles. Unlike paper, the screen adds contrast, flicker, and glare, which makes your eyes work even harder.

Your eyes and physiology are also sensitive to the light that our monitors emit. Blue light or high-energy visible light has a particularly high-frequency that can make your eyes feel sore.

Blue light also plays a role in regulating your sleep. Too much of it can make it more difficult to get deep restorative sleep. Poor quality sleep can have a cumulative, knock-on effect which can make CVS symptoms more pronounced.

The LUMES solution

Here’s how LUMES can help to prevent the symptoms of CSV:

Eliminate glare: All our lenses have a premium Anti-Glare coating, preventing unnecessary feedback from entering your eyes which can cause eye strain, tiredness and blurry vision.

Filter blue light: Our lenses filter blue light from digital devices. Even though they’re virtually clear, LUMES lenses filter out the highest energy wavelengths of 420-440 nm. Too much blue light can lead to headaches and sleep cycle disruption.

Beautiful and effective blue light blocking glasses that blend with your style.
